Sen. McCain fought long and hard in this campaign. And he's fought even

the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and

# Y9 L! o: S& l2 LLet's remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the

values of self-reliance and individual liberty and national unity.

5 k! h& a1 E% N/ w& KThose are values that we all share. And while the Democratic Party has won
" h" g( r/ J, d9 ya great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and

; G) `3 V3 C: U6 B5 S4 ~# Bline to make their voice heard in this election except for one thing: Ann

5 x! e4 t; s& ~: D6 _She was born just a generation past slavery; a time when there were no cars

When there was despair in the dust bowl and depression across the land, she

common purpose. Yes we can.

When the bombs fell on our harbor and tyranny threatened the world, she was

She was there for the buses in Montgomery, the hoses in Birmingham, a
) g! ?4 [8 P5 l& l+ O( n4 P Zbridge in Selma, and a preacher from Atlanta who told a people that "We
, | N7 B" t9 ~" j; YShall Overcome." Yes we can.

A man touched down on the moon, a wall came down in Berlin, a world was ) l$ _* n2 S5 ~. t) V
connected by our own science and imagination.

And this year, in this election, she touched her finger to a screen, and
! z% W4 _0 u% z {) \. Mcast her vote, because after 106 years in America, through the best of
